Prof. Aleksandar Tomić from Boston College Lectures MONTEB Students on the Cost of Taxation

MONTEB first-year students had the opportunity to attend a guest lecture by Prof. Aleksandar (Sasha) Tomić from Boston College.

As part of the Principles of Economics course, Prof. Tomić delivered a lecture titled "The Cost of Taxation." Building on the basics of supply and demand, he explained how markets create value for buyers and sellers through consumer and producer surplus, and how a tax changes that picture. Students learned how a tax drives a wedge between what buyers pay and what sellers receive, reduces the quantity traded, and creates a loss to society that goes beyond the revenue the government collects.

The lecture gave students a chance to learn from an internationally recognized economist and to see how core economic concepts apply to real policy questions. We thank Prof. Tomić for his time and look forward to continued cooperation with Boston College.
